The Dream Behind the Build

This home has been five years in the making.

This is actually the second property we have planned on building a home on, and after years of dreaming, planning, changing direction, and trusting the process, this one is finally coming to fruition.

For us, the goal has always been the same: to build something forever.

Something timeless.Something that grows with us.Something that feels just as right decades from now as it does the day we move in.

That has been the theme behind every decision we make.

When we say “timeless,” we don’t just mean the style of the home. We mean creating a home that fits every season of life — from raising our children, to hosting family, to eventually watching our family grow and change within these walls.

We don’t want to build something that feels outdated in ten years and needs a complete remodel. We want to create a home that feels classic, intentional, and truly ours.

Finding Our Place

Our dream has always been to leave the busyness of the city behind and find a little more peace, quiet, and space.

Our first property was two acres, and we loved it. It was the beginning of this dream for us, but the timing wasn’t right, and life had a different direction planned.

Looking back now, we are so thankful things unfolded the way they did because every road led us here.

Funny enough, we actually thought this dream was falling apart again. We listed this property, and it sat on the market for an entire year.

And then, once again, timing stepped in.

Everything aligned, and we realized this was where we were meant to be.

Sometimes the timing of things doesn’t make sense while you’re in the middle of it, but looking back, it all makes sense.

A Connection To Nature

One of the biggest reasons we fell in love with this property was the opportunity to slow down.

We want our children to slow down.

We want more time outside, more connection to nature, and more space to simply live.

With five acres, the possibilities feel endless. We have so many ideas for this property — including a very ambitious garden that I’m sure will become its own adventure. 😂

Our land is also a really unique piece of Florida.

It’s so sandy that it almost feels like a beach, which is pretty incredible considering we are miles away from the actual ocean. The surrounding lower areas are known for shark teeth discoveries, and it’s easy to imagine that this land looked very different thousands of years ago.

Our property sits tucked away in a cul-de-sac, surrounded by space and quiet, and we feel incredibly lucky to call it ours.

Quality Over Quantity

One of the biggest values guiding this build is choosing quality over rushing.

We want to take our time and make thoughtful decisions, even if that means some things are finished later down the road.

A forever home doesn’t have to be completed overnight.

We would rather create something carefully, choosing materials and details that we truly love, than rush through decisions just to say everything is finished.

Creating A Healthier Home

Another major reason we chose to build instead of buy was the ability to make intentional choices about the health of our home.

I am very invested in creating the healthiest home possible for our family — from the water we drink, to the air we breathe, to the materials we choose.

Of course, we are not chasing perfection.

We are researching, learning, and making the best decisions we can with the information and budget we have.

Throughout this journey, I’ll be sharing what we decide is worth the investment, where we choose to save, and the things that truly make a difference.

Designing Our Own Home

For this project, we are our own contractors and designers.

I am definitely not an interior designer, and I will be the first to admit I can get serious analysis paralysis when making decisions. 😂

Hiring a designer simply wasn’t in the budget, and honestly… knowing myself, I’m not sure a designer would want to work with me anyway because I have a very clear vision and probably too many questions.

But that’s also what makes this journey exciting.

Every decision has a reason.

Every design choice tells part of our story.

We are so excited to finally share this journey.

My goal is to document the real process of building a home — the beautiful parts, the stressful parts, the decisions, the lessons learned, and the numbers behind it all.

I want to share information that can actually help someone else who is dreaming about building, researching their own home, or simply loves seeing what goes into creating a space from the ground up.
