Why the Bugaboo Donkey Is Worth Every Penny: My 4-Year Review

When I was pregnant with my first baby, I spent an embarrassing amount of time researching strollers. 😂
There are so many options, and I remember feeling overwhelmed trying to decide what would actually make sense for our family.
I knew I wanted more than one child, so I didn’t want to invest in a single stroller and then find myself needing to buy another one a year or two later.
But at the same time, I didn’t want to spend money unnecessarily.
After a lot of research, my husband and I decided that the Bugaboo Donkey was the stroller that made the most sense for us. Whether we had one baby or multiple children, it was something we felt would genuinely serve our family for years.
Four years later, I can confidently say this was one of the best baby purchases we made.
When my first baby was born, we used the Bugaboo Donkey as a single stroller with the side shopping basket.
And honestly? I loved it even as a single stroller.
The shopping basket was such a great feature, especially as a first-time mom doing errands alone.
Going to the grocery store, walking around the mall, or just running errands was so much easier because I had a place to put everything without needing an additional bag hanging from the stroller.
It functioned beautifully, and I never felt like I had bought “too much stroller” just because I only had one child.
Baby #2 Arrived 2.5 Years Later
When our second baby came along, I was so thankful we had chosen the Bugaboo Donkey.
Instead of needing to start over with a new double stroller, we simply converted what we already owned.
We pulled the car seat attachment back out, transitioned the shopping basket into storage, and used the stroller as a double.
We used the exact same car seat from baby #1 for baby #2, and I had already invested in the toddler seat when my daughter transitioned out of the bassinet and infant car seat.
This stroller truly grew with our family.
Eventually, when my son was ready to transition out of the car seat, we purchased the second seat, and the stroller continued working exactly how we needed it to.
Preparing for Baby #3: Should I Buy Something New?
Now here I am, pregnant with baby #3, and of course… I started researching all over again. 😂
I wondered:
Should I buy a Doona and keep my Bugaboo Donkey for my older two?
Should I buy a wagon?
Should I just baby wear?
There are so many options when you have three kids, and I wanted to make sure I was making the smartest choice.
The biggest thing I kept coming back to was:
How will this work when I’m alone with all three kids?
A baby carrier is wonderful, but realistically, sometimes I want the ability to move a sleeping baby from the car without waking them up.
My daughter will be 4.5 when baby #3 arrives. She loves to walk, but I still wanted options.
After looking into wagons and doing a lot of research, I realized something:
I already owned the stroller I needed.

We are also annual pass holders at Disney, and this was honestly a huge factor in our decision.
Disney does not allow wagons unless they are medically necessary, so that immediately eliminated a lot of options for us.
I also read many reviews from parents who loved their wagons but mentioned that once you load up:
three kids
all your bags
snacks
water
everything you need for a day out
they can become very heavy and difficult to push.
Then there’s the reality of loading and unloading a large wagon from the car.
The Bugaboo Donkey is not a small stroller, but for its size, I’ve always felt it folds well and has been manageable for our family.
Four Years Later: How Has It Held Up?
The Bugaboo Donkey has held up incredibly well through two kids and years of use.
The one thing I will mention is that we live in Florida, and I did leave it outside in the sun for a while. Over time, I noticed some fading from the intense Florida heat and sun.
The good news?
Refreshing it has been simple.
Before baby #3 arrives, I ordered:
After a good cleaning and a few refreshed pieces, it feels almost brand new again.
Would I Buy the Bugaboo Donkey Again?
Absolutely.
I don’t think every expensive baby product is automatically worth the money.
There are plenty of things I bought that I wouldn’t purchase again.
The reason I think the Bugaboo Donkey was worth the investment is because it has continued serving our family through different stages:
Instead of buying multiple strollers for different seasons of life, we invested in one system that adapted as our family grew.
Four years later, I’m so grateful we made that decision.
