The Shoes We Actually Wear

We are definitely not a family with a giant shoe collection.

I love the idea of having the perfect shoe for every outfit, but in real life we all tend to reach for the same few pairs again and again. Comfort wins, neutral colors make everything easier, and if something works well, we stick with it.

My Everyday Shoes

My everyday shoe is the Birkenstock Gizeh Birkibuc in Mocha.

I wear these for almost everything. They’re comfortable enough for everyday errands and walking around with the kids, but the neutral color and simple shape also make them easy to dress up a little when I want to look more put together.

They work with dresses, jeans, shorts, matching sets — basically anything I actually wear.

If I’m not heading to the gym, there is a very good chance these are on my feet.

For workouts, long walks, or anything where I want a true sneaker, I wear the Hoka Women’s Bondi 9.

They’re cushioned, comfortable, and simple enough that I don’t feel like I’m wearing some giant colorful running shoe when I’m just going for a walk.

And that is literally my entire daily shoe rotation. 😂

What My Husband Actually Wears

My husband is pretty much the same way.

His everyday shoes are the Birkenstock Zermatt Premium Suede Leather in Gray Taupe.

They’re comfortable, easy, and neutral enough to wear with pretty much anything casual.

He also wears the Hoka Bondi 9 for walking and anything more active.

For work, meetings, and days when he’s out in the field, he reaches for his Thorogood work boots. They’re one of those pairs that actually get used for what they were made for, so they’ve earned their place.

What My Kids Actually Wear

My kids are even simpler.

Most of the time, they’re in Crocs or barefoot — which honestly sounds like the dream. 😂

My daughter, however, has a little more flair.

She is a total princess and absolutely loves the princess shoe line at Target. She has both the

Elsa boots and the Ariel heels, and she wears them pretty much every single day at some point.

She also gets approximately 99 compliments every time she wears them, which obviously only encourages the obsession. 😂

And That’s Pretty Much It

That’s our real-life family shoe collection in rotation.

We could all own more, but most of it would probably just sit in the closet while we continued reaching for the same favorites.

I’d rather have a handful of shoes we genuinely love, know are comfortable, and actually wear than a giant collection we barely touch.

Comfort first, quality over quantity, and barefoot whenever possible.
