My Lower-Tox Bathroom Favorites

Simple products with more mindful ingredients

I’m not trying to create a perfectly “non-toxic” bathroom.

I’m just trying to be a little more intentional about the things we use every single day —

especially the products that go directly on our bodies.

These are 5 bathroom favorites I genuinely use, love, and keep repurchasing.

1. My Oral Care Routine

I love NOBS toothpaste tablets because they’re fresh, simple, and so easy to use.

I also love that they come in a glass jar instead of a traditional toothpaste tube. It’s one of those little bathroom swaps that just feels cleaner and more streamlined.

And personally, I genuinely prefer brushing with the tablets now. They leave my mouth feeling incredibly fresh, and at this point I reach for them over traditional toothpaste every time.

This is one of those things I tried thinking, Is this really necessary?

And now I cannot imagine NOT doing it. 😂

I use a stainless steel tongue scraper every morning and every night when I brush my teeth.

Tongue scraping physically removes buildup from the surface of the tongue, which can include bacteria, food debris, and dead cells. Whether you think it’s essential or completely unnecessary is up to you — but personally, it changed my oral-care routine and I never skip it now.

I also swapped my traditional plastic floss picks for bamboo floss picks.

This is such an easy little change because I still get the convenience of a floss pick without going through piles of plastic ones.

Nothing complicated. Just one of those tiny swaps that made sense for me.

I LOVE Zum.

Their body wash has a relatively short ingredient list, and their essential-oil scents are incredible.

I’m someone who still wants my bathroom products to smell good — I just prefer products with simpler formulations and scents I actually enjoy using.

And I get double use out of it.

I keep a refillable glass soap dispenser by the sink and fill it with my Zum soap instead of constantly buying new plastic hand-soap bottles.

One product, two uses.

Also: I love Zum laundry detergent too, but that deserves an entirely separate post. 😂

These might be one of my longest-running bathroom favorites.

I’ve been using The Earthling Co. shampoo and conditioner bars for years and have placed dozens of orders.

And I was genuinely shocked by how well they worked.

I have very thick, medium-curly hair, so I did NOT expect a shampoo bar — and especially a conditioner bar — to give me the same results as traditional bottled products.

But they do.

The conditioner bar surprised me the most.

The Earthling Co. says its bars are sulfate-, silicone-, paraben- and phthalate-free, and the packaging is plastic-free. The company also specifically says its moisturizing bars are suitable for wavy, curly and coily hair. The Earthling Co.

At this point, they aren’t even a “swap” for me anymore. They’re just my shampoo and conditioner.

Reel bamboo toilet paper is a great option if you’re trying to move away from conventional toilet paper.

Their toilet paper is made from 100% bamboo, comes in plastic-free packaging, and the company says it contains no added dyes, inks or fragrances. Reel Paper

But if I’m choosing my actual favorite?

Bidet. All day. 😂

Once you switch, regular toilet paper just doesn’t feel the same.

For a permanent setup, I love a TUSHY-style bidet attachment that connects directly to the toilet.

But there’s also a really inexpensive option: a portable bidet.

That’s actually what I’m using right now while we’re building our home and living temporarily.

It’s inexpensive, easy to travel with, and a great way to try a bidet before committing to anything permanent.

Possibly the least exciting item on this list — and somehow one of the things I use the most.

I always keep coconut oil in the bathroom.

Frizzy hair?

I melt the tiniest amount between my palms and smooth it over the ends.

Dry skin?

Coconut oil.

Post-shave legs?

Coconut oil.

Dry elbows, knees or cuticles?

You guessed it. 😂

It’s inexpensive, simple, lasts forever, and has about a million uses.

I’m a big fan of products that can replace several separate things, and coconut oil is one of those staples for me.

My Bathroom Philosophy

I’m not throwing everything away because someone on the internet decided an ingredient was “bad.”

I’d rather slowly find products I genuinely enjoy using, pay attention to the ingredients and materials when I can, and simplify where it makes sense.

Some of these changes are tiny.

Some I’ve been doing for years.

And some — looking at you, tongue scraper and bidet 😂 — I now genuinely cannot imagine living without.

Simple products. More mindful ingredients. Things I actually use and love.

That’s really the goal.
